The theme of the Biennale - The Laboratory of the Future - is declined in the city in exhibitions and exhibition projects that will inaugurate at the same time. We have chosen some must-sees.
The laboratory of the future is the name of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition 2023 curated by Lesley Lokko which opens its doors to the public on 20 May at the Giardini and at the Arsenale. With an underlying question, what does it mean to be "a change agent"? This edition is designed as a laboratory in full swing, with ongoing hypotheses, processes and investigations to be tested and physically traversed. With particular attention to the issues and resources of building in the coming years, the main theme of the Biennale is declined in independent exhibitions and projects in the city that will inaugurate at the same time. We have chosen some must-sees.
1 - KENGO KUMA, ONOMATOPOEIA ARCHITECTURE
A stone's throw from the Accademia bridge, Acp Art Capital Partners - Palazzo Franchetti, in collaboration with the international studio Kengo Kuma & Associates, hosts an original retrospective on onomatopoeia, a favorite theme of the innovative Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Onomatopoeia is the act of creating or using words that include sounds similar to the noises they refer to and Kengo Kuma shapes it using, in line with Japanese traditions, his own materials: wood, paper and metal. In his vision, surfaces involve not only sight, but also the senses of smell and touch. Through the display of some models of his most famous buildings, visitors are encouraged to discover the sounds of different materials.
